Courses Curriculum

The LOIC courses are arranged in modules containing main and sub elements arranged around 25% theory and 75% practical work. Training is completed by a course in Small Scale Enterprise Development offered to all classes and a curriculum in Life Skills.

The curriculum are planned for twelve months of in-center training that will provide the trainees with real life work situations and challenges where they will put the knowledge and skills acquired into practice. The in-center training is followed by on-the-job training and job placement.

General objectives of all courses are, that upon completing the TVE-training all LOIC graduates can produce standard marketable products / services to sustain themselves, assist in the communities, and fit for gainful employment or establish own entrepreneurship.

General Objective: Specific Objective
Successfully completing the course in General Construction (Masonry & Carpentry) will provide trainees with the skill to produce standard marketable products. They will be able to use equipment, instruments, and have knowledge of materials to carry-out a variety of residential and commercial constructions and repairs of appliances.

Upon completion of the course, the beneficiary will be able to:

  • Read and interpret simple working drawing/ blueprints of projects.
  • Identify, select, use, maintain and store carpentry tools and equipment after use.
  • Identify, select, and use appropriate materials by kind of tools.
  • Estimate, calculate project and labor cost, profit and loss.
  • Design, make, produce, and construct marketable carpentry products.
  • Perform in working groups by safety precaution regulation.

Trainees completing this course in Plumbing will acquire the knowledge and skills to install, repair and maintain plumbing fixtures.

Upon completion of the course, the beneficiary will be able to:

  • Identify, select and use plumbing tools and equipment.
  • Identify, select and use plumbing materials appropriately by kind/ type of job.
  • Read and interpret plumbing symbols.
  • Prepare pipes and fittings and install same on commercial and residential structures.
  • Solve plumbing related mathematical problems and prepare project cost estimates.
  • Apply safety regulations while working.

Trainees completing this course in Electricity / Solar Energy will apply the knowledge and skills acquired to use electrical tools, equipment, instruments, and materials to carry-out a variety of residential and commercial wiring, electrical installations, maintenance, and repairs of appliances.

Upon completion of the course, the beneficiary will be able to:

  • Explain the basic principles of electricity.
  • Identify, read and interpret basic electrical circuits and blue prints.
  • Identify, select, use and maintain electrical tools and equipment.
  • Identify, select and install common electrical fittings, devices, and accessories.
  • Carry-out residential and commercial wiring.
  • Perform basic appliance maintenance and repair.
  • Apply electrical codes, safety regulations in selecting cables and equipment.
  • Carry-out basic electrical calculations and electrical materials estimate.

Trainees completing this course in Tailoring & Fashion Design will apply the knowledge and skills acquired to use machine, materials, and equipment. They will also be able to enter into the world of fashion and designing by producing and offering marketable goods and services.

Upon completion of the course, the  beneficiary will be able to:

  • Explain about material selection.
  • Identify the parts of the machine.
  • Perform hand and machine stitches.
  • Carry-out measurement.
  • Perform garment construction of skirt, blouse, shirt, dress, and trousers.
  • Perform extra designs (bags, curtain, etc.).
