KAKATA, Margibi County – Cllr. Jargbe Roseline Nagbe-Kowo, the former Executive Director of the Public Procurement and Concession Commission (PPCC), has proposed the integration of Technical and Vocational Education (TVET) in all high schools in Liberia. She made the proposal at the 94th Founders Day of the Booker Washington Institute (BWI), where she served as the Orator and Guest Speaker.
Cllr. Kowo argued that TVET is an important foundation of social and economic development, and that many countries have made it an economic reform strategy. She pointed out that Liberia had a similar strategy in place 94 years ago, when BWI was founded.
Cllr. Kowo said that Liberia needs to “metastasize” the BWI model across the country by integrating TVET into the high school curriculum. She argued that this would help to empower young people and reduce unemployment, and would be a “constructive strategy for nation growth.”
Cllr. Kowo also called for the upgrading of BWI and for more investment in instructional and teachers’ development. She said that vocational education should not be seen as a second-class career path, and that it is essential for economic development.

The 94th BWI Founders Day was graced by many Alumni Members, International guests and well-wishers, and students, all commemorating this historical Day. The Booker T. Washington Agricultural and Industrial Institute was founded in 1929, envisaged by the late Liberian President Charles D. King, and named in honor of Booker T. Washington, African American Economic Rights Leader.
