MONROVIA – The first cohort of the USAID-funded Youth Advance program graduated yesterday at LOIC Monrovia. The program, which is being implemented in Montserrado, Bassa, and Lofa counties, aims to increase the economic self-reliance and resilience of 21,000 youths between the ages of 15 and 35.

A total of 150 participants were enrolled in the program, comprising 75 each from the LOIC Monrovia and Buchanan centers respectively. These first cohort received training in a variety of areas, including literacy, numeracy, work readiness, and life skills. They also participated in leadership development and entrepreneurship training.

The Certification ceremony was held at the LOIC Monrovia campus. Motivational speaker Ms. Lovetta Bainda delivered the keynote address.

The second cohort of the Youth Advance program are expected to graduate this coming Saturday at LOIC Buchanan, in Grand Bassa County.

The program, funded by USAID, and being implemented by Education Development Center (EDC). EDC is a global NGO that advances lasting solutions to improve education, promote health, and expand economic opportunity, with a focus on vulnerable and under-served populations.

The program aims to increase the economic self-reliance and resilience of youths between the ages 15-29 years. It also includes a focus on leadership development and entrepreneurship training. 

Presently, only one out of the three LOIC Liberia’s centers have not benefitted from the training: LOIC Gbarnga, located in Bong County.
