Min. Wilson Speaks To Progress In TVET, Lauds GoL, Partners For support

MONROVIA, June 8 (LINA) – The Minister of Youth and Sports D. Zoegar Wilson has commended the government of Liberia for making tremendous effort to support Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), noting that the program is making exceptional impact in youth development and opportunities for Liberians.
TVET is intended for youth quality projects and aims to help youth, including those from disadvantaged groups, benefit from quality education and empowerment prospects.
Minister Wilson said that recently through the Ministry of Finance, the Government of Liberia signed four different financial instruments with the European Union, noting that components of the agreement aimed at improving the TVET sector and other areas of youth development.
Speaking Thursday at the Ministry of Information Cultural Affairs and Tourism regular press briefing, Minister Wilson disclosed that one of the instruments will be intended to ensure that TVET institutions are constructed, and equipped in the political subdivisions of Liberia.
The Youth and Sports Minister further lamented that the President of Liberia, George Manneh Weah is concerned to see the inclusion of all Liberians despite their educational status in pursuit of formal and informal education.
“The President believes no child or no one should be left behind because of their condition or level of education. There are two TVET sectors, one is under the Ministry of Education which is the formal sector and another one is under the Youth and Sports which is the informal and largest sector,” Minister Wilson said.
As a result of providing opportunities for other Liberians who might not have the desire to go back to school and become high school graduates, Minister Wilson noted that, they might be professional people in other disciplines or skills and as such, the President of Liberia sees the need to create opportunities for people who are in that area to get through informal means and become serviceable to society by providing the enabling environment so they would acquire education through TVET.
Minister Wilson said, under the new instruments it will cover eight of the subdivisions of Liberia, constructing “states-of-the-art” TVET institutions, adding, they are going to be well equipped in all counties and each of the counties except for Nimba, he believes will be attached to JW Pearson High School in Ganta City while another will be in Sanniquellie.
“Let me state for the record that the Sanniquellie Vocational Technical Centre will be one of the largest in the country. So, President Weah’s dreams of having TVET in all 15 Counties will be actualized by the signing of the recent agreement with the European Unions,” Minister Wilson assures.
The Liberian official used the occasion to applaud partners who have been supportive of the government of Liberia and its citizens for many years, saying that the TVET sectors under the administration of President Weah will not only provide education but production where institutions will be able to compete in the private sectors and other businesses that are provided to the public.
